Department Information
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.
With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
Job Summary
This lab studies the regulation of immunity by long noncoding RNAs. The current focus is understanding how long noncoding RNAs regulate T cells that cause acute graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Conducts in vitro and in vivo bone marrow transplantation/graft-versus-host disease/immunology experiments.
Conducts routine molecular biology techniques, especially RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, cytotoxicity assays, cloning, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, tissue culture, and flow cytometry.
Assists with mouse colony maintenance.
Assists other team members in their projects when needed.
Collects, analyzes, and processes research data, reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) or their designee.
Works in collaboration with Principal Investigator or their designee on other projects as needed.
Assists with lab ordering and administrative aspects.
Assists with bio-safety, radiation safety and regulatory compliance related to both animal and human subject research specimens.
Participates in laboratory meetings.
Responsible for accurate research record keeping.
General Responsibilities
Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Additional Information
The salary range for the career level position is $55,000 - $65,000. Salary determination is based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
Should the position be filled at the core career level, the salary range for this position is $45,000-$50,000. Salary determination is based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
