Position Summary:
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is a federally mandated oversight committee responsible for ensuring the humane and ethical use of vertebrate animals in research. The IACUC team within the Office of Research provides analytical, technical and professional support to the IACUC and the UCI research community. It also works closely with University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to ensure the well-being of animals and safety of researchers.
Under the general supervision of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Administrator and functioning as part of a team, provide analytical, technical and professional support to the IACUC and the UCI research community. Responsibilities include analysis and application of federal regulations and University vertebrate animal research policies and procedures; communication of administrative, veterinary and scientific pre-review comments to researchers for revision prior to convened meetings; lead subcommittees of IACUC members and veterinarians in conducting federally-mandated semiannual facility inspections; providing support services and training for Research Management System users; and management of protocol and other records in electronic format. This is primarily a remote position with occasional requirement to work on campus or at the medical center.

$28.02 - $49.66 (Hourly Rate)
Required:
1-3 years preferred
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Independence, planning and decision-making abilities to complete assigned duties. Knowledge of relevant Federal and State vertebrate animal research regulations, and policies. Ability to solve problems, issues; listen, interpret and confirm understanding of others' communications; and be objective. Effective, efficient and tactful oral and written communication skills. Time management skills and the flexibility to accommodate changing priorities in unit. Ability to work in a team oriented setting, to prioritize work, and to follow through on routine assignments with minimal direction. Proficiency with computers, including the ability to operate personal computer software with sophisticated retrieval, storage, and merging capabilities. Excellent customer service skills, pleasant, helpful and patient. Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and work with frequent interruptions.
Preferred:
Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) preferred.
Working knowledge of UC/UCI research administration policies and procedures Familiarity with research methodology and terminology
Special Conditions Required:
This position participates in semiannual facility inspections during which exposure to animal dander and/or odors may occur. These inspections may also involve occasional physical requirements such as bending, squatting or climbing stairs, as well as passing through laboratories where gases, radiation, or potentially hazardous agents are used and/or stored.
