Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Educational Technology, the business systems analyst position is responsible for system development, integration, implementation, and customization projects required by IU School of Medicine (IUSM) faculty, staff, and students on all IUSM campuses on behalf of Medical Student Education.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Provides strong leadership in the design and development of robust and reliable web applications and other data systems.
Participates in the development of long-range plans for systems development, acquisition, and integration.
Responsible for the implementation of enterprise web applications; conducts research, evaluates alternatives, and proposes solutions.
Serves as liaison with user departments.
Establishes priorities for tasks to ensure that the development and implementation of projects happen on time.
Prepares a variety of reports and analyses supporting short- and long-range objectives.
Reviews, evaluates, and approves proposed modifications and design specifications.
Provides time and cost estimates and documentation for these proposals.
General Responsibilities
Leads and conducts assessments to understand client business needs and strategic direction and identifies technology solutions to achieve goals; consults with IT staff and business users to identify, analyze, refine and document business requirements and processes and develop associated solutions.
Leads and conducts interviews, focus groups, and workshops to establish current and future business requirements; coordinates the communication between stakeholders and service owners in order to effectively implement solutions.
Provides advanced business analyses, including construction of data models, business use cases, process flows and technical specifications for transition to IT solutions; establishes system requirements through functional and technical assessments of existing software.
Provides stakeholders with necessary analysis documentation for buy-in, leadership decision, and implementation; conducts walk-throughs of recommended system functionality and prototypes with business users in small group or large group settings.
Leads system/integration testing efforts; tests changes, enhancements, and new programs or functions to ensure they meet business needs.
Makes recommendations to improve, as well as implements, testing, quality assurance, and documentation protocols and procedures for business analysis services.
Stays up-to-date on new industry standards, business analysis best practices, emerging technologies, and accessibility standards.
May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to junior peers.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in analytic or computer related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years of business analysis experience working on complex problems and producing concrete, actionable solutions
Preferred
Experience with agile teams

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Location
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
