General Summary: The Network Engineer supports all aspects of the College's network infrastructure, including operations, maintenance, implementation, and administration of the network, servers, and telecommunications. The Network Engineer acts as an expert in IT infrastructure, providing guidance in evaluating, selecting, and implementing new networking technologies as appropriate. Along with the IT Infrastructure team, the Network Engineer is responsible for information security, day-to-day network monitoring, maintenance, and resolution of complex network problems. The Network Engineer assists with project planning and execution to upgrade existing capabilities and implement new functionality. The position requires occasional work outside of normal business hours (early morning, evening, weekends, holidays, etc.).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, manages, and enforces network and system policies, and assures network is in compliance with MCC policies, and federal, state, and local regulations.
Deploys manages, and maintains network information security systems and services, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption protocols, and monitoring.
Collaborates with the system manager to manage essential network services, including DNS, DHCP, Active Directory domain services, endpoint protection, and virtualization technologies.
Oversees network and system monitoring, reviews alerts, and responds appropriately.
Creates and maintains network documentation, including network topology, equipment inventory, and administrative procedures.
Configures, monitors, and maintains wired and wireless voice, video, and data network infrastructure including basic wiring, switches, wireless access points, and network access control, across a multi-building and multi-campus.
Works with vendors and external network consultants as needed.
Collaborates communicates, and cooperates with staff to minimize network disruptions to the campus community, ensure consistent communications to constituents regarding network and system status, and achieve organizational and institutional objectives.
Provides on-call coverage for emergencies or cancellations.
Manages and deploys telecommunication call systems and applications to organizational users.
Assists with research on new technologies, project planning, and project management.
Routinely lifts and carries equipment; stoops bends, stretches, and crouches to install and maintain service network infrastructure, including under desks; and travels to various locations to conduct assessments and site inspections on network equipment.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Academic credential of an Associate's degree in a related IT field with at least +1 year's related experience administering enterprise networks, telecommunication, and infrastructure.
Demonstrated experience managing the following technologies:
Virtualization technology, ideally VMware
Dell servers and enterprise storage
Enterprise Windows Server environment
Enterprise Linux Server environment
Demonstrated experience working with some of the following:
Wired and wireless networks
Switching, routing, next-generation firewalls
Active Directory
Avaya Cloud Phone System
Extreme Networks Equipment
DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, UDP, VLANS, telephony, SSL/TLS, multicasting, and encryption
Highly technically skilled and administratively organized
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to proactively work on problems of diverse scope and exercise good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, and follow-through without supervision
Ability to independently research best practices, policies, issues, and technologies and integrate findings into systems and IT administration
Ability to work collaboratively with other technical and non-technical staff, students, and faculty to achieve organizational and institutional objectives.
Ability to establish rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators with diverse identities/backgrounds such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required

Additional Information:

Location: Lowell campus with occasional travel to Bedford as needed
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, schedule to be determined upon hire; this position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
