Summary Position Elon University is currently seeking a Senior Director of Development. Elon is in the final 6 months of Elon LEADS, an ambitious $250M comprehensive campaign to reinforce their standing as the preeminent institution for engaged learning and to ensure access for qualified students. We are seeking to expand our fundraising operation by adding a dynamic, committed and experienced development professional. The Senior Director of Development will report to the Associate Vice President for University Advancement and will be responsible for identifying and developing relationships with Elon's constituencies with the goal of soliciting them for annual, major and planned gifts. He/she is responsible for implementing strategies to ensure proper qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of those donors. Successful candidate will have the ability to establish and cultivate relationships with individuals and have a willingness to travel extensively. Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred. Minimum level of experience 3-5 years. 7-10 years preferred. Qualify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and manage relationships with approximately 200 prospective major gift donors.
Responsible for soliciting gifts of $50,000 and higher in support of Elon's institutional priorities.
Focus on securing support for a set of campus-wide priorities that include scholarships, academic programs, unrestricted support, facility renovations, new facilities, and campus improvements.
Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including: recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation.
Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and advancement staff, and other Elon representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for institutional priorities.
Manage and mentor a member of our major gifts team.
Work closely with the AVP to exceed campaign fundraising goals.
Travel in and out of state to meet alumni, parents, and friends of Elon.
Assist with and attend Elon events including, but not limited to, Family Weekend, Homecoming, alumni/parent receptions, and athletic events.

Frequent travel and/or evening and weekend duties are required. The SDoD will be required to travel for in person prospect visits, as well as university events Advance relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to ensure fundraising goals of the university are met. Collaborate with appropriate staff within University Advancement and across the university. Use existing practices and metrics to track activity within their portfolio Utilize university databases, including The Raisers Edge NXT, to document all appropriate activity and track activity against metrics Assist with University Advancement events and activities as needed.
