Oversee office budget planning, analytics, and problem-solving; conduct analyses to develop recommendations, estimates, and models for new initiatives, staffing, sustainability, etc., as well as identify areas of potential cost savings or revenue increases.
Manage approximately $3M in operational expenses and $3M in revenue (including application fees) throughout the annual budget cycle, as well as reallocation of resources to maximize use of restricted and designated funds.
Lead annual budget process and operational improvements, devising and implementing recommendations regarding internal procedures, communications, documentation, and role of budget managers.
Collaborate on overall office budget to capture historical data, as well as enable forecasting and long-term planning;¿perform timely monthly audit of financial reports for leadership, tracking significant variances or trends.
Advise and collaborate with budget managers and staff in development of program and operational budgets and ongoing reporting and reforecasting. Develop materials and train budget managers to ensure optimal fiscal planning and financial compliance with University policies and procedures.
Encourage participation in reporting cycle; actively engage managers and continuously improve processes, report format, visualization and contents to optimize buy-in, understanding, and compliance.
As needed, provide additional guidance and coverage for financial operations, year-end closing, and staff support.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Prior experience managing complex and evolving budgets preferred; knowledge of budget management, financial analysis, financial modeling, and basic accounting principles.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); ability to develop relationships and collaborate with diverse constituents across all levels.¿
Demonstrated customer service orientation.¿
Strong professional judgment, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work well under pressure and be adaptable; strong time management and organizational skills to meet competing deadlines.
Expert user of Excel, including macros and pivot tables. Demonstrated experience with financial systems and data query tools.
Bachelor's degree preferred.¿
Proficiency with office and collaboration tools, as well as administrative systems, necessary; access to Internet for remote work required.

Working Conditions
Work may be performed primarily remotely, but will require in-person attendance for activities, such as new hire onboarding and fall staff orientation. (Note: The office does not reimburse employees for commuting/lodging expenses related to on-campus activities.)
Some evening/weekend work during peak periods may be required.
Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (e.g., CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, and VT).
