The Finance Operations Center (FinOps Center) at the University of Minnesota seeks a highly motivated financial and customer focused Accounting Manager to lead and provide operational excellence in delivering systemwide accounting services. The University is embarking on a new way of delivering Accounting services through the FinOps Center aligning with the strategic goal of providing consistent world-class service, and engaging new technologies to create seamless experiences for our faculty and staff.
Reporting to the Director of the FinOps Center, this role will be responsible for providing strategic shared services advising, collaborating with partners across the University System and driving continuous improvement. This position will manage a team of Accounting professionals, and provide guidance and training as needed to ensure that all Accounting activities are performed in compliance with Accounting standards and University policy.

Supervises the accounting function of the Finance Operations Center.
Responsible for ensuring that service level agreements (SLAs) with a portfolio of supported Resource Responsibility Centers (RRCs) are completed successfully.
Provides oversight for accounting related functions by making decisions as to the hiring, promotion, dismissal, training, and development of staff.

Accounting 30%
Serves as the primary liaison to Accounting Services in the Controller’s Office to ensure accurate application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), understand, interpret, and provide policy instruction to team members, and accomplish the goals of central Accounting Services.
Ensures that financial transactions are performed in accordance with accounting principles and fiscal controls, and safeguards organizational assets.
Reviews issues that fall outside of standard operating procedure and other needs requiring managerial oversight, and reviews solutions to ensure a lack of errors and exceptions.
Ensure appropriate staff support for the overall success of the FinOps Center and the portfolio of supported RRCs.
Professional Development 10%
Completes professional development, education, and training activities, related to the position and for the pursuit of individual, unit, and institutional success.
Develops and adds to training manuals and procedures for the FinOps Center.
Develops and implements opportunities for staff development based on individual and departmental needs including skills training, Equity Development and Inclusion (EDI) development, professional learning, engagement and well-being.
Strategic Planning 10%
In collaboration with the Director of Accounting Services, identifies and outlines initiatives in accounting, chart of accounts, and financial reporting operations to provide direction to members of the FinOps Center and portfolio of supported RRCs.
Develops concrete plans to meet goals for operational improvements, implementation of GASB pronouncements, reporting tool implementation, recommendations for modification to or creation of standard and ad hoc financial reports.
Approvals 5%
Reviews and approves financial transactions, reconciliations and financial reports as needed and works with staff and Chief Financial Managers (CFMs) to resolve discrepancies, find opportunities for stream-lining, financial documentation, pinpoint concerns surrounding fiscal control, and work with RRCs to resolve identified issues.

Required Qualifications (please document on the resume):
BA/BS degree in a related field plus at least eight years of experience OR a combination of experience and education to equal 12 years.
Prior experience planning and managing full time staff and resources to deliver predetermined objectives.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.

Preferred Qualifications (please document on the resume):
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or another professional accounting certification, such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
