About the System Development and Improvement Center
The CECH Systems Development & Improvement (SDI) Center in Columbus, Ohio fosters the development, implementation, and evaluation of PK20 education research and demonstration efforts that improve opportunities to learn for children and youth, their families, and the professionals who support them. At the core of many Center activities is a commitment to advocacy on behalf of all children, as well as partnerships – with school districts, with professional associations, with institutions of higher education, with regional providers, with the state - that improve conditions and outcomes for students with disabilities and other marginalized groups of learners (e.g., learners who are economically disadvantaged, learners at risk of school failure for a variety of reasons, etc.).
Job Overview
The SDI Center in Columbus, Ohio is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to join our highly skilled team. The ideal candidate will have senior management experience in a dynamic setting, particularly with state education agency level and multiple state systems. The role requires outstanding organizational, communication, leadership skills, and an ability to develop innovative solutions that push boundaries. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Executive Director and Research Director to strategize and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity, research and success for the Center.
This position has the potential for a hybrid work schedule in Columbus, Ohio in accordance with UC Policies. Funding for this position is based upon the availability of external funds.
Essential Functions
Responsible for planning, policy and results.
Responsible for development, implementation and administration of goals to achieve strategic objectives; assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects/tasks associated with operations and/or partnerships with which decisions and quality of execution have significant impact and influence Center service delivery.
Guide Center strategic planning efforts in collaboration with Center Executive Director and Research Director; identify areas of expansion while staying on mission; responsible for coordinating focus area and cross-focus area Center program(s) in which decisions and quality of execution have significant impact on external relations; ensure projects are on track, including the timely use of funds.
Manage communication and marketing with internal CECH leadership and externally with multiple partners.
Support activities to increase external funding; formulate, recommend, approve and implement policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to increase internal and/or external state and national partnerships and advance service levels; responsible for policy execution and results that enrich the Center, the College, and the university; participate in cross-functional policy development.
Develop, implement and monitor center budget; authority for budget, revenue and expense planning and approving expenditure; has signature authority as "accountable officer" for programs or functions within the Center; serves as Center business administration officer and reports on budget status to College level.
Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, write proposals, deliver presentations, construct contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university, state and federal regulations.
Lead and oversee special projects of varying difficulty for departmental and/or cross-functional teams.
Essential Functions Continued
Communicate and assist stakeholders, partners, and funders resolve questions and complex issues; represent the Center internally and externally.
Provide administrative leadership and supervision to managers, professionals and support staff; hire, orient, train, mentor and evaluate assigned staff; monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs.
Serve on various university, College, and Center committees and represent the Center at various state and national associations.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
Five (5) years of related experience.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Doctoral or Professional Degree.
Seven (7) years of relevant experience.
Experience working at the state education agency level.
Experience working with multiple state systems.
Experience developing partnerships on a state and national level.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
