Job Overview
The Associate Director of Development, International is a vital member of the International Development's frontline fundraising team and plays a critical role in building connectivity, engagement, and philanthropic intent specifically in Asia.
They partner closely with the AVP, University Development as a market leader in Asia and are for responsible for building and managing a portfolio of donors with a capacity of making gifts in the four-, five-, and six-figure range, executing engagement activities for fundraising efforts in Asia, and managing fundraising priorities in support of the International Development team's fundraising strategy in Asia. As well, they collaborate with fellow gift officers, senior leadership, faculty, and colleagues throughout the university to help ensure that outreach to top-level constituents and donors is coordinated and effective.
The Associate Director is responsible for independently managing a portfolio of approximately 100-120 prospects comprised of major gift donors. They meet key metrics throughout the year to measure their performance, including an agreed upon number of current and prospective donor visits, proposals/asks, and dollars raised. As the portfolio matures, they will be asked to raise $250,000-$1M annually.
They travel - sometimes including evenings and weekends - to meet prospective and current donors, and will staff principals or faculty members.
Additionally, they assist in ensuring the continued development of a strong international community across key regions as the university's capital campaign continues. Working within an existing portfolio, they do extensive prospecting to find new donors, with the ultimate goal of discovering and soliciting those who will support this campaign; ensure that donors at all levels are engaged with the university; partner with the AVP to staff and support the Regents and Board of Directors Global Engagement Committees; and coordinate with other teams as needed to cultivate and steward donors and prospects.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, University Development, the Associate Director of Development, International partners with Office of Advancement colleagues, with a heavy emphasis on collaboration with other development officers - including the Unit-based and International Development teams - to help with idea generation, planning, and execution of creative cultivation and engagement initiatives associated with the campaign and major gifts enterprise.
They also interact with Principals, Faculty, and other key university leaders in efforts aimed at reaching fundraising and engagement goals.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
3 to 5 years of professional experience - preference for a development/fundraising environment, especially at an academic institution
Experience with prospect management systems, donor databases, and customer relationship management (CRM) systems
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Suite and Google Suite
A solid understanding and experience working with people from international cultures
A desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University and the Office of Advancement
Ability to adapt their communication style and work style to meet the needs of their constituents
Highly collaborative, with excellent attention to detail, and adept at managing multiple priorities
Professional maturity and can ability to apply tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality during interactions with members of the University community and the University's donors
Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative as appropriate
Preferred Qualification
Multilingual ability at a professional level - preference for an Asian language in addition to English
