The Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization at the University of Michigan is seeking a Senior Web Developer to work within the Digital User Experience team in the Marketing and Communications department. The Senior Web Developer will focus on administering web Content Management Systems (mainly Drupal) and maintenance of websites and web applications.
The candidate should have a high-level performance in autonomy, active contributions to strategy and technology solutions, responsiveness, cross-training peers, customer service, reliability, acting as a change agent, collaboration, and deliverables.
This position will report to the Digital User Experience Team Manager.
In this position, the web developer will be responsible for leading the back-end creation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting for web sites and web applications. The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with a talented team of front-end developers, information architects, UX designers, multimedia designers, and communication specialists. Daily work will be a combination of operational work as well making technical and tactical contributions to priority projects.
Specific duties include:
Design and implement Drupal (and WordPress) websites for the university.
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Drupal (and WordPress).
Choose, install, configure, and upgrade Drupal modules to meet business requirements.
Write custom Drupal modules or modify existing modules to meet business requirements when no suitable third-party module exists.
Upgrade/migrate Drupal websites to new versions.
Integrate the university's authentication system, and maintain security protocols.
Work with front-end website designers, UX staff, and accessibility staff to customize existing Drupal themes or create new Drupal themes.
Work with website content creators to resolve website issues affecting them.
Work with web hosting providers (internal and vendors) to resolve website issues and keep websites running optimally.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 5 years of directly related professional work experience in marketing and communications
Knowledge of and experience with complex Drupal implementations and significant PHP development experience
Experience building, configuring and maintaining Drupal 7/8/9/10 and WordPress websites
Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues and to recommend areas for improvement or innovation
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
Ability to lead, give direction and follow through on commitments to completion
Experience working with enterprise systems

Physical Demands/Work Environment
Remote work is currently available with the possibility to renew every year based on University and ITS leadership directive, business needs, and/or performance. Average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amounts of work at a computer, may require travel. May require work outside of normal business hours. Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance required.
