Job Summary
The OCR Business Office Analyst works closely with OCR management and staff, OCR Executive Director, faculty and personnel from departments throughout UCDH, and personnel from other research institutions and private industry. The incumbent plays a critical role in the independent performance of compliance, technical, fiscal and administrative services require to support cancer clinical trials. The OCR currently uses a clinical trial management system (CTMS) to manage clinical research trials/studies. The Business Office Database Analyst will be primarily responsible for creating detailed study calendars in the CTMS following the protocol guidelines. Once created, this calendar is used to manage a variety of research activities, such as billing compliance, study budgets, visits /events tracking as they occur, electronic data capture, creating financial milestones and invoices, and tracking payments received. The incumbent will manage incoming requests for new protocols and amendments and ensure the end-user requests are handled in a timely and professional manner. This may require meeting with UCD faculty and staff to ensure the research study activities are reflected accurately in the system and explain any system setting that may impact the system study calendar configuration. The OCR Business Office Database Analyst applies acquired skills and professional clinical applications concepts for small to medium sized projects of moderate scope and operates independently within defined scope of responsibilities. The OCR Business Office Database Analyst also promotes ethical and proper behavior in all matters related to OCR business operations and maintains effective controls that promote adherence to applicable laws, regulations, rules and guidelines regarding Federal, State and Private health services in the performance of clinical research.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, scientific fields or related fields and/or equivalent experience and training.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with administration of complex clinical trials.
Experience applicable to clinical research cost analysis, budget negotiation and clinical research administration
Experience assessing clinical research protocols.
Experience comprehending and interpreting scientific and medical literature for utilization in assessment of appropriate billing policy.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulation, procedures and policies regarding clinical research billing & coding policy and applicable CMS Local and National Coverage Decisions.
Knowledge of coverage analysis, medical billing terms and research billing operations for industry-sponsored studies.
Knowledge and experience using automated financial systems to effectively manage a variety of projects and accounts from various funding sources.
Strong combination of analytical, technical, clinical, mathematical, financial and leadership skills, plus demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the willingness to assume responsibility readily.
Quantitative skills to develop arithmetically and logically accurate data and translate into variable coherent reporting formats; select significant data for decision-making; analyze and resolve complex cost analysis and logical problems within an electronic financial information system, clinical trials database (Velos or OnCore preferred) and complex Excel workbooks.
Demonstrated experience using advanced features in software programs and technological tools to analyze and solve difficult problems with multiple variables.
Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical Research Coordinator or similar prior experience.
Department Description
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR)) is a resource of the UCDH Comprehensive Cancer Center. The overall objective of the OCR is to facilitate and coordinate cancer clinical research for Cancer Center investigators, providing investigator consultations, centralized clinical trials support for all aspects of trial management, and adherence to clinical research regulations. The OCR manages over 200 active oncology clinical trials.
