Job Overview
The User Experience and Development Team creates digital products and tools that support Georgetown University's Office of Advancement (OA). As an in-house team of designers and developers, this team is uniquely positioned to deliver purpose-built solutions for a major higher education institution. These solutions connect Georgetown with alumni, donors, and friends, and expand the community of people and organizations interested in supporting Georgetown's strategic priorities. Digital products created and maintained by this team service multiple areas including online giving, special events, editorial content, and more.
The Web Developer reports to and assists with building and maintaining OA's web properties. This role works to transform visual and user experience design specifications into high quality code. The Web Developer works independently and collaborates with the other Web Developer and Director through consultation, pair programming, and code reviews to realize completed web products from provided project goals and specifications.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the UX and Development Director, the Web Designer, in highly collaborative role, works closely with
Members of the Design Team on website styling and institutional visual identity; Members of the Digital Channel Strategy Team on web analytics, maintenance, and support of web products; Members of their own UX/dev team on technical specifications, user experience, and implementation; and Multiple stakeholders within the Office of Advancement
Qualifications
1-3 years of web development experience or combination of education and work experience Experience translating mockups and wireframes into semantically correct web templates Experience with customizing and extending a content management system (CMS) Knowledge of frontend web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) Knowledge of backend web technologies (e.g., PHP, SQL) Experience using browser dev tools Experience with responsive web design and cross-browser support Knowledge of version control best practices and tools (e.g., Git and Github) Understanding of REST APIs and working with XML and JSON endpoints
Ideal candidate
Understands how to develop web experiences for diverse audiences, with an emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility Cares about modern development best practices, including code reviews, continuous integration and deployment, accessibility, and iterative development Has experience with design systems (e.g., Pattern Lab/atomic design) Has experience working with WordPress Has experience with frameworks/libraries: jQuery, Bootstrap, Angular, React, SASS, Gulp, Twig Has experience working with cloud hosting platforms (e.g., Pantheon, Acquia, AWS) and their workflows Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people Has the ability to simplify complex technology concepts and communicate those concepts to non-technical audiences Has the ability to multi-task and juggle multiple, concurrent projects with great time management skills Has code samples or public Github projects to share Believes that comprehensive documentation is part of the development process
