Under the direction of the Research Administrative Systems (RAS) office, the Research Administrative Systems Analyst serves as a campus wide subject matter expert for electronic research administration (eRA) systems, which includes all research related software systems. The main responsibility for this position will be to provide user support as well as assist with and coordinate activities of the RAS office.

Providing user support to all offices under ORCA, as well as campus personnel and research administration support staff who support sponsored research related activities in Kuali.
Assisting with coordinating and implementing tasks to:
Identify and recommend solutions to improve the timeliness, transparency and quality of research data and related procedures
Assist in revising and drafting new processes and procedures
Develop data definitions and data integration points that will support a logical model for the research enterprise and related systems
Analyze and recommend high-level methods for data access and reporting that may be satisfied through research enterprise systems tools or separate university-wide business intelligence tools
Facilitate and document meetings with subject matter experts
Formulate data access procedures that will maintain the balance between confidentiality, security and data accessibility.
Providing support of new strategic initiatives and opportunities in eRA that will facilitate researcher and institutional strategic goals; staying up to date with research administration changes and trends through various methods, including training, attending conferences and joining relevant organizations.
Leading business continuity preparedness related to research systems and data.
Maintaining content to provide a user-friendly and responsive website with timely and comprehensive information about research project guidelines and procedures and useful tools to assist in proposal development, award management, protocol development and procedure implementation.
Developing and conducting training for staff and researchers on Kuali systems; working collaboratively with other ORCA units to ensure interrelated research business processes are effective and support quality assurance efforts; assisting with collaboration between UMBC units (ORCA, schools/colleges, departments and other central offices).
Working with peer groups and extramural groups to share collaborative strategic goals of the research communities to which UMBC belongs (e.g., Kuali Community, SRAG, NCURA); maintaining strong relationships with vendors of systems used by ORCA and participating in appropriate user groups and professional organizations.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and three years of experience in developing, implementing, maintaining or upgrading systems, or a related area
Prior experience with Kuali
Demonstrated experience in analyzing complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolutions in an effective, innovative and timely manner
Attention to detail with an ability to weigh relative values and importance of specific activities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive customer service attitude; self- starter, highly organized, quick learner, with the ability to work both independently and in a team
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in designing test plans to verify system enhancements or upgrades are working as intended
Familiarity with administrative policies/procedures and research administration systems of an institution of higher education
Knowledge of federal, state and local government funding policies and procedures
Tuition remission at UMBC for eligible dependents after two years of FT employment
