Dept of Physics & Astronomy is one of the largest academic departments in the School of Physical Sciences at UCI and our staff are responsible for administrative duties associated with a population of 290 people. This includes our largest faculty population of 55 faculty, 80 non-senate academics, 14 career staff and 185 graduate students. Physics lies at the forefront of our understanding of nature. It includes the study of the universe on the largest scales - astronomy and cosmology, and on the smallest - the physics of quarks and leptons. In addition, physics provides the background for high technology; lasers, nuclear power, semiconductors, and medical imaging all have their roots in physics. At the UCI Department of Physics & Astronomy, world-renowned physicists study exciting topics like quantum mechanics, gravitation, the big bang, black holes, magnetism, and superconductivity. Under general supervision of the Sr Finanancial Analyst Supervisor 1, the Finance and Grant Analyst has primary responsibility for assigned financial matters within the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California. Assigments may include analysis, preparation, and monitoring of the departmental budget, advising the CAO and chair, faculty, and other departmental personnel on financial issues, accounts payable, and preparation of budgets for research grants and contracts within the department. Incumbent independently coordinates and prepares contract and grant proposals, in consultation with Principal Investigators including coordination with extramural funding agencies and the UCI Sponsored Projects Office. Applies professional concepts and independent decision making authority for assigned key responsibilities. Applies organizational policies and procedures to resolve various issues. Works on problems of limited to moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of multiple factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

$29.76 - $34.77 (Hourly Rate) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $29.26 - $51.29 (Hourly Rate)
Required:
1-3 years of financial experience, preferably in higher education
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely. Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to function as a member of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective listening skills to independently analyze issues and present information and recommendations concisely, work effectively with people with diverse background and education; ability to effectively confront and clarify issues in an honest, and diplomatic yet assertive manner. Demonstrated ability to keep accurate and complete records, paying attention to detail and records retention requirements. Promote and maintain professional competence in the work area by actively moving towards understanding differences in coworkers' styles and level of capabilities and by actively diffusing negative behaviors and performance in the workplace. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and effectively promotes teamwork and group cohesiveness.
Preferred:
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Ability to interpret and implement established policies and procedures as they relate to finance, contracts and grants, and sales and services activities, equipment management, and gift administration. Proficient in the use of UC Campus financial systems, such as KR, KFS, UCPath, Pl Report, GEC and BAT functions
