Requirements
Senior Development Associate, Regional and Special Projects - Office of Advancement - Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Senior Development Associate for Regional and Special Projects has a key role within the Development team, and the greater Office of Advancement. In a highly collaborative role, they specifically support the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic (SEMA) Regional Development team, and provide strategic Special Project support and focus for the broader University Regional Development team.
They work very closely with the immediate group of 3-4 major gift officers (MGOs) on the SEMA team, who are engaging, cultivating and securing philanthropic support from the Georgetown donor community in various regional markets. They help to ensure these MGSO's get the high-level administrative and strategic support they need to properly maintain a focus on their portfolio work; building meaningful donor relationships and raising significant philanthropy in support of the University's priorities.
These responsibilities can include management of portfolio reviews and donor strategy; identifying and researching current and potential donors to the university; data integrity and portfolio maintenance; gift reports; event planning and execution; travel support and expenses; proposal coordination; ask and gift tracking and related formal documentation; and other full-spectrum support needs that MGOs might have in their respective work.
Special Projects for the broader Regional Development team might include but are not limited to assisting other regional or unit development teams on deployments, research, and other miscellaneous tasks; supporting other operations-related tasks in the Office of Advancement; and contributing to specific programs and projects in coordination and collaboration with the development team to move forward strategic initiatives in the Office of Advancement.
In addition to the support and project scope, the SDA role holds an opportunity for an aspiring frontline development officer to learn and grow and become prepared to be a competitive candidate for positions within Georgetown's Development office.
They take on management of a small, regionally-focused portfolio, focused on annual-fund level donors and qualification of prospective donors; and are expected to conduct a set number of annual visits - often with a Development Officer colleague - and complete appropriate follow up, including activity reports, as they move this portfolio through the donor lifecycle.
There is also great growth opportunity externally outside of direct portfolio management. The SDA may be expected to staff some principal deployment activity in specific regional markets, in collaboration with their manager and other development officers. They may also assist Advancement colleagues and Frontline staff with volunteer and board 7tmanagement, as they continue to mature in the role.
The SDA has a central role in many working partnerships - with various teams throughout Advancement, as well as with leaders in the broader University community.
