The Director of Career Development is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for preparing graduate business students to compete for, secure, and succeed in fulfilling jobs and internships.
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, he or she oversees Jesuit-principled career development programs and serves as a primary ambassador to the business community and alumni to develop employment opportunities and support the career development of Gabelli students.
Essential Functions
Sets the overarching strategy and implements it for providing career-development programs for graduate business students in programs including FtMBA, PMBA, EMBA, and all Specialty Masters programs both on-campus and virtually. Supervises the work of the career advising team delivering programs and the supporting staff in employer relations, technology, and operations.
Develops the strategic corporate outreach plan to continually expand and retain the relationships of domestic and international companies recruiting students for internships and full-time jobs and oversees the corporate partnerships team in its execution. This plan covers building new relationships across a diverse set of industries and expanding existing relationships to additional business lines and functions to meet the needs of domestic and international students as well as university relations.
Is actively involved in sourcing and managing key corporate, alumni, and other strategic external relationships that benefit Gabelli School students and faculty.
Works closely with the Dean’s Advisory Board on a continuous basis to identify opportunities for engagement to assist students in their professional development, job and internship searches, and with employer development. This includes reassessing current opportunities of engagement each semester to see where improvements can be made or for further opportunities to arise.
Develops the Gabelli School’s approach to student career development into a nationally regarded model for improving outcomes. Stays current on best industry standards for career programming, candidate workshops and technology through active engagement with the MBACSEA and regular benchmarking against other graduate business school career centers.
Implements a metrics-based system to track progress monthly and quarterly in improving student placement and assesses the effectiveness of advising, programming, recruiting, and technology.
Acts as a partner with Director of Admissions, Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and Student Engagement, program directors, and key faculty to holistically and comprehensively serve Gabelli students.
Oversees the selection and implementation of technology platforms that will improve the execution of career-development programs, assist students with full-time and/or internship searches and improve employment outcomes.
Oversees the graduate employment survey and reporting process to identify specific trends that would only be able to be captured through this data.
Closely monitors the career-services metrics used in the major ranking’s surveys—among them Bloomberg, U.S. News and World Report, and Financial Times—to ensure that processes support the best possible rankings outcomes.
Partners with the Director of Gabelli Undergraduate Personal and Professional Development (PPD) and the Office of Career Services to identify opportunities to collaborate on recruiting and programming.
Identifies opportunities to advantageously position the Dean in the corporate community.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
Advanced degree required, such as an MBA or MS in a relevant business field
10+ years of management experience, including the capacity to manage a staff of specialists in various functions.

Strong understanding of current global recruiting and employment trends across a variety of functions, including accounting, finance, marketing, technology, business analytics, consulting services, and sustainability related careers.
Extensive professional network across various industries, focused in New York City but with broader reach considered desirable. Successful candidate will demonstrate the interpersonal skills, persuasiveness and dedication that will enable them to expand the Gabelli School’s roster of employers in the United States and internationally through existing and new relationships.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with various internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, administration, and alumni.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Google Suite.
Strong interest and ability to drive innovation.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with and interest in infusing career development programming with Jesuit principles.
Meets the highest standards of ethical business practices and decision-making.
Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
Corporate HR or recruiting experience.
Experience in a high-level career management or career advising capacity at the university level a significant plus.
Understanding and experience with program design concepts and theory.
Minimum Starting Salary: $140,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $175,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
