The Assistant Director, Innovation & Development, is a part of the TCU College Advising Corps leadership team. This role oversees a cohort of high school college advisers and high school campus coordinators who will be based in the community at local high schools including recruitment, direct support, training, and building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at partner schools/districts, and is responsible for program performance at their assigned schools. Additionally, the Assistant Director will create and implement an interactive training and onboarding curriculum for all new hires, including an intensive summer training program. This role is responsible for annual financial aid training, managing mid-year hires' onboarding process, collaborating with state and national partners to facilitate joint training opportunities and adviser meet-ups, and assisting college advisers and campus coordinators with professional development opportunities.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Provides team development and innovation by planning, organizing, and facilitating interactive training curriculum for all new hires, including a six-week intensive summer training program; creating and leading a week-long summer bus tour in which team members visit and tour multiple colleges and universities and participate in four overnight stays away from Fort Worth; creating and facilitating training schedules for all new employees of the TCU College Advising Corps and tracking the outcomes of all trainings, maintaining training records for the organization; designing and implementing professional development trainings for high school campus coordinators at least once a semester; designing any ad-hoc trainings needed throughout the year such as financial aid trainings; collaborating with key stakeholders and partners to design interactive trainings for team members and partners throughout the year. 2. Assists with overarching program-related processes by working collaboratively with fellow assistant directors as assigned by the Director. 3. Supervises assigned campus coordinators and assists with management of college advisers in assigned Tarrant County schools by conducting on-site high school visits a minimum of once weekly to directly observe campus coordinators and advisers on-site and understand how the program is working in each partner high school; providing support and mentorship to campus coordinators and college advisers; assisting campus coordinators with budget management at their assigned high school; managing potential conflict between campus coordinators, college advisers, and/or high school stakeholders 4. Develops strong collaborative relationships with districts and partner schools by communicating with partner school leaders and site supervisor(s) during regular site visits to examine partnership status, identifying any needed improvements, maintaining collaborative relationships; presenting updates about the TCU College Advising Corps, in tandem with campus coordinators and advisers, at school board and school/district leadership meetings. 5. Represents and increases public awareness of the TCU College Advising Corps at district and regional meetings and events by representing and presenting on behalf of the Director at various meetings and activities and communicating to the Director any potential funding sources in the region of which you become aware. 6. Assists on overall TCU College Advising Corps program initiatives by assisting the director with identification of potential partner schools 7. Directly assists and coordinates initiatives with program funders and Tarrant To and Through (T3) by organizing, promoting and supporting T3 efforts at local schools and throughout the region. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree. • 5 years’ experience with the College Advising Corps, a college access program, or within education or non-profit organizations.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Master’s degree in education, management, or a related field. • Preference will be given to candidates possessing direct experience working for a College Advising Corps chapter, especially two years serving as a high school college adviser. • Additional experience in college access, college admissions, and/or college financial aid is preferable.
• Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques. • Knowledge of computer software used to perform the job. • Knowledge of the College Advising Corps program, policies, and procedures. • Knowledge of recordkeeping techniques. • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook. • Skill in effective written and verbal communication. • Skill in the use of the College Advising Corps GRACE student tracker system. • Ability to develop processes and standards for the specific needs of the assigned schools with diplomacy and a strong commitment to service. • Ability to collaborate creatively and effectively with others in order to solve problems and reach goals. • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
