Global Communication at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for a Project Manager.
Global Communication provides expertise and services in the field of marketing and communications, including: branding, public relations, speech writing, journalism, graphic design, social media, outreach, and web management. Learn more about Illinois International.
Primary Position Function/Summary:
Serves as the initial point of contact for projects undertaken by Global Communication. Responsible for intaking, operationalizing, and tracking projects; liaising with campus and external partners on major campaigns that advance the global mission of the university; and ensure quality deliverables and excellent resource management.
Statement of Duties & Responsibilities:
Communication and marketing project management:
o Intake project requests on behalf of Global Communication, aligning new requests with existing projects and campaigns.
o Operationalize projects and campaigns by developing timelines together with clients, facilitating client meetings, and delegating tasks to the appropriate team member for completion.
o Support the Director for Global Communication in maintaining project priority and managing resource allocation.
o Monitor project progress, ensuring timely completion based on client deadlines.
o Serve as primary point of contact for all projects on behalf of the Global Communication team. Communicate updates to clients and team members as well as other project stakeholders. Anticipate and mitigate problems.
o Oversee project review process, collecting client feedback and proofing final drafts.
o Process and track purchase orders and payments for projects.
o Maintain accurate and detailed records of all projects in the project management software.
Work closely with Illinois International's Shared Administrative Services and International Business Operations on purchase orders and tracking of expenditures related to projects.
Maintain collaborative and collegial relationships with internal and external vendors, other campus partners, and potential sponsors. Manage the merchandise and swag inventory.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of Illinois International, its services, and its client base.
Measure outcomes and prepare data on Global Communication project output.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
Demonstrated project management experience in a complex business, academic, research or government environment.
Demonstrated experience writing and copyediting promotional items, stories, or related materials.
Preferred: (Successful candidates will have):
Experience working within project management systems and timelines and use those systems to streamline operations.
Experience working in an environment with multiple demands and short timelines, prioritizing tasks and meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
Experience working with graphic designers, web designers and developers, writers, editors, photographers, consultants, and videographers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Awareness of current trends in marketing and communication.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively and enthusiastically as part of a professional team.
Ability to work with diverse students and staff.
Ability to multi-task and manage complex projects in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:
This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Marketing Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays, 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year.
