The Center for Agribusiness Excellence at Tarleton State University welcomes applications, nominations, and referrals for GIS Applications Developer II or GIS Applications Developer III. The GIS Applications Developer handles geospatial development for the Center of Agribusiness Excellence (CAE). The primary responsibility of this position includes the design, development, implementation and maintenance of geospatial systems, GIS software tools, custom applications, web services and data integration solutions. Additional responsibilities include the development and automation of large-scale spatial dataset processing workflows and report creation for spatial layer currency, web service availability, client user stats and server logs. This position is eligible for remote work with work hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM or as work requirements indicate. Must qualify for USDA security clearance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Â
20% Maintain current web mapping applications, geoprocessing services, and GIS software customizations using ArcGIS APIs, Javascript, Python, SQL, and various software libraries and frameworks including Arcpy and ArcObjects. Â
20% Design, develop, and maintain new mapping features for customized web applications based on client requests; Collect and analyze feature requirements.
15% Customize and maintain an ArcGIS Enterprise System in support of web mapping; Work in a team environment to identify vulnerabilities, software upgrades, and scheduled maintenance; Implement code changes to accommodate version upgrades to software, APIs and coding languages using development software such as Webstorm, Intellij, PyCharm and Chrome DevTools.Â
15% Develop and maintain programs to test data layer currency and web service availability; Create and maintain code to monitor performance, capacity, server logs, and user stats; Implement and maintain ArcGIS Monitor for the ArcGIS Enterprise System.Â
10% Create and maintain build processes to facilitate transpiling, bundling and code deployment; Maintain code versioning using a distributed version control system such as GIT; Write and maintain custom software documentation and research software tools for future use.
15% Work closely with analysts to perform research and advanced scientific analysis using geospatial data and crop insurance information in a Data Warehouse and ArcGIS Enterprise System; Automate and maintain data downloads and processing for large scale spatial datasets including the development of temporal mosaic datasets.Â
5% Other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Requirements for GIS Applications Developer II
Education and Experience:
BS degree in Computer Science or related field; Candidates with GIS degree must have strong programming skills.
3 years of experience in GIS custom web and software application development
3 years of programming experience in an ESRI product environment for ArcGIS Enterprise
Advanced knowledge of geospatial concepts (e.g., projections) and relational database technologies
Must qualify for USDA Security Clearance (USDA clearance contingent upon US citizenship or permanent residency status)
Minimum Requirements for GIS Applications Developer III
Education and Experience:
BS degree in Computer Science or related field; Candidates with GIS degree must have strong programming skills.
5 years of experience in GIS custom web and software application development
5 years of programming experience in an ESRI product environment for ArcGIS Enterprise
Advanced knowledge of geospatial concepts (e.g., projections) and relational database technologies
Must qualify for USDA Security Clearance (USDA clearance contingent upon US citizenship or permanent residency status)

Commensurate with experience
The target base annual salary is commensurate with experience and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
