Position Overview:
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks a Development Associate, who maintains records in UMBC's alumni and donor database and is part of the Advancement Services & Donor Relations team within the Office of Institutional Advancement.

The Development Associate will follow established policies and procedures for gift processing and alumni/donor/prospect data management as well data security practices. The incumbent must maintain proficiency in the Ellucian Advance database and serve as a resource to colleagues.
Primary responsibilities include conducting research and biographical maintenance received from online giving and engagement websites, phonathons, events, news alerts and other sources; performing regular list management, quality checks and clean-up data projects; and maintaining paper and electronic files. The incumbent will also regularly process charitable donations to the university. Other responsibilities include assisting with departmental donor stewardship projects, communicating regularly with university and UMBC Foundation employees and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
One year direct sales or fundraising experience which may have involved phonathons, alumni relations or special events.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of solicitation and fundraising techniques and procedures
Skill in performing arithmetic calculations
Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment
General knowledge of and ability to use word processing, database and spreadsheet software
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments
Ability to handle confidential matters and establish effective working relationships
