The Seibold Laboratory is an NIH-funded research lab focused on understanding asthma and other lung and allergic diseases. We aim to identify disease subgroups (endotypes) and the genetic, environmental, and immune factors driving these conditions. By combining genomic studies of patient cohorts with in vitro human organoid models, we seek to develop precision medicine approaches for diagnosis and treatment. Our multidisciplinary team includes cell biologists, molecular biologists, computational biologists, bioinformaticians, and geneticists.
We are seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst II to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to projects exploring disease pathways using high-throughput expression and omics data, including the following:
Implementing pipelines and workflows
Conducting statistical analysis and data visualization
Writing manuscripts for publication
Collaborating with a diverse research team
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science, or related field
Experience with bioinformatics tools and high-throughput genetic/genomic data analysis
Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX and high-performance computing environments
Position Summary Provides advanced bioinformatics support to scientists.
Essential Duties
Collaborates with and supports scientists in the area of bioinformatics analysis.
Assists with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects.
Writes custom scripts to access databases and analyze data.
Writes custom web tools for scientists.
Assists with the preparation and teaching of courses and/or demonstrations on the use of bioinformatics tools.
Interprets complex biological information. Performs tasks to reduce and consolidate output from software. Prepares data for utilization by other scientists.
Develops and uses gene/protein functional annotation tools and programs.
May develop and maintain searchable databases.
May direct and guide DNA, RNA, small molecule, and protein sequence database searches and the computational analysis of resulting data.
Uses version control and other reproducible research practices.
Writes sections for reports and other dissemination of research methods and findings.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $73,000

Minimum Qualifications
Education:Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) required in bioinformatics, biostatistics or computer science or related field required. Masters or PhD in computational field preferred.
Work Experience:A minimum of 3 years of applied experience required.
Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Must be proficient in at least 2 programming languages (e.g. python, C++ , JAVA, Etc.) and have a background in utility programming (Bash, AWK, Perl, BioPerl, R, Matlab and other languages) in a Linux environment.
