Accounting Manager Job Description The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for month-end closing, cash management, inventory, fixed assets and accounts payable. The Candidate should have a degree in accounting corroborating their knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and excellent management/collaborative skills. The position will have one direct report, Accounts Payable. Duties The following list of duties are a portion of the duties expected to be performed by the Accounting Manager: • Maintain all treasury functions and provide cash position daily to the ownership team. • Record Cash management transactions and perform monthly bank reconciliations. • Manage and reconcile Petty Cash fund for accounting department. • Record all recurring monthly closing entries. • Develop standard cost per unit for asphalt mixes by using their corresponding recipes and develop the cost of manufacturing per unit. Update schedule periodically as prices change. Developing the standard cost will also involve understanding why certain asphalt mixes with similar recipes can result in a different cost per unit. • Maintain and reconcile the roll forward of raw materials inventory. This requires an understanding of the various asphalt mix recipes to identify, when analyzing the roll forward, whether the formula is being followed or not, which can result in a shortage or excess in the ending raw material. • Manage and record monthly recurring closing entries and expense accruals, including expense allocations to jobs. • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including Receivables, Prepaids, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Accrued and other Liability accounts. • Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset subledgers, including Additions, Disposals and Depreciation. • Oversight of certain accounting functions such as Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables, includes reviewing all AP payments issued weekly and providing GL coding for certain invoices. • Review the weekly payroll process, which is done in-house, and process related payroll tax payments and quarterly returns. Process weekly DD ACH transactions. • Responsible for processing certain ACH and Wire payments outside the normal course of AP function. Serve as backup to Accounts Payable check run processing. • Review financial statements to identify issues or missing entries. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies. • Assess current accounting processes and provide recommendations for improvement or implementation of new automated procedures. • Compliance/filing of local tax returns including Payroll Taxes, Sales and Use Tax, Tangible Property Taxes and 1099’s. • Assist with annual audit and FDOT Qualification.
Work Hours • Office work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position involves closing deadlines. As a result, the applicant should be flexible to work extra if necessary to meet the monthly closing deadlines. This position rarely requires any form of travel. Qualifications/Skills • 8+ years related Accounting experience, with minimum 3+ years supervisory experience. • Bilingual preferable. • Experience in Manufacturing or Construction Industry a plus. • Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills. Candidate is expected to liaise with various internal departments and work in a team environment. • Motivated self-starter and problem solver. • Proactive in identifying accounting issues and proposing solutions. • Ability to analyze complex financial information. • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. • Experience with financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent required. • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills.
