American Public Transportation Association (APTA)seeks a Senior Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of financial transactions. Responsibilities include managing cash activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, revenue recognition, and the monthly close process. The role ensures compliance with GAAP and organizational policies, maintaining high standards of financial integrity.
Duties include but are not limited to: Cash Management & Reconciliation; Accounts Payable & Employee Reimbursements; Accounts Receivable & Revenue Recognition; Payroll Processing & Compliance; Month-End Close & Financial Reporting; Prepaid Expenses & Fixed Assets; Internal Controls & Compliance; Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration;and Other duties as directed.
Successful candidate will possess: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA-track preferred; Six to ten years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity; Deep knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards; Experience with payroll processing and compliance (e.g., ADP Workforce Now); Proven experience managing accounts payable, employee reimbursements, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses; High level of comfort with technology, including cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct) and advanced Excel skills; Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and deadlines; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to collaborate and lead in a dynamic, mission-driven environment; and High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment.
Compensation and Benefits: APTA offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability insurance; paid time off; a 401(k)-retirement plan; professional development opportunities; and commuter benefits to assist with public transportation costs. The annual base starting salary is expected to range between $90,300 to $120,399.
Work Location and Schedule: This position is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the flexibility to select a third in-office day. The remaining two workdays can be remote. Please note that this schedule may be subject to change based on the needs of the Association.
