POSITION OVERVIEW
Victory Electric Cooperative’s mission is to power our community with reliable, affordable energy solutions. As a Project Manager 1 or Project Manager 2, you will plan, execute, and deliver critical projects, including IT system implementations, billing system upgrades, and process improvements. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage resources, and align projects with the cooperative’s strategic roadmap to ensure timely, on-budget delivery with minimal disruption. This role demands exceptional organizational skills, emotional intelligence, and communication to engage stakeholders at all levels.
Project Manager 1: An entry- to mid-level role focused on supporting and executing projects, ideal for candidates with 3–5 years of project management experience.
Project Manager 2: A senior role leading complex projects and mentoring others, suited for candidates with 5–7 years of experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning
Collaborate with internal teams (IT, Operations, Finance, Engineering, Safety, Key Accounts, Member Services, Communications) to define project requirements, scope, timelines, and deliverables.
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules using tools like Microsoft Project.
Establish project management standards to ensure consistency across the organization.
Project Execution
Lead project teams of 3–15 members, coordinating resources and timelines to meet goals with minimal impact on concurrent initiatives.
Identify, select, and manage external contractors or vendors when needed.
Process and document project change requests, ensuring alignment with scope and objectives.
Stakeholder Communication
Communicate project updates, risks, and timeline changes to stakeholders, including the CIO and senior management.
Translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
Provide leadership and a positive attitude to motivate project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Process Improvement
Analyze business processes and recommend improvements involving resources, technology, or workflows.
Align projects with the cooperative’s strategic goals through regular assessments and documentation.
Additional Duties (Project Manager 2)
Mentor junior project managers, sharing proven project management techniques and best practices.
Lead high-complexity projects, such as enterprise-wide system integrations or cross-departmental initiatives.
SECONDAY RESPONSIBILITIES
Occasionally support Engineering or Operations with construction-related projects, such as coordinating utility infrastructure upgrades or liaising with external agencies.
Attend required safety, technical, and company training sessions, including occasional out-of-state travel for conferences or meetings.
Pursue relevant certifications or professional development to enhance project management expertise.
Perform other duties as assigned by the CIO.
SAFETY PRACTICES AND TRAINING
Adhere to Victory Electric Cooperative’s safety protocols, including training for occasional field-based project oversight. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Collaborate with IT and other departments to align project goals and deliverables.
External: Engage with vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies as needed to ensure project success.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily office-based, with occasional light physical tasks (e.g., lifting up to 30 lbs., setting up equipment).
Frequent use of computers, keyboards, and office machines, requiring repetitive hand and finger movements.
Occasional travel to project sites or training, requiring a valid driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Project Manager 1: 3–5 years of experience as a project manager or business analyst with strong project management skills.
Project Manager 2: 5–7 years of experience leading complex projects, including mentoring or leadership roles.
Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint and Office 365 products.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with Microsoft Project preferred; willingness to learn required.
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Project Management Institute (PMI) certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM) or equivalent.
Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., billing, business intelligence, or IT infrastructure).
Proficiency in creating and presenting complex reports, charts, and graphs to executive leadership.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field, or 5+ years of equivalent project management experience.
Valid driver’s license required for occasional travel.
The Victory Electric Cooperative Association, Inc., serves an area of southwest Kansas that includes a diverse agricultural, rural and urban territory. Victory serves Ford and Gray Counties and parts of seven other counties, Kiowa, Edwards, Hodgeman, Finney, Haskell, Meade, and Clark. Victory was organized in 1945 to serve primarily farm residential services.
Through the years, Victory has expanded to a broad consumer base of diversified loads ranging from industrial, commercial and irrigation loads with 3,200 miles of transmission and distribution line.
