About the Position
This position provides state program coordination and event management for the 4-H ATV Safety Program. This position also supports 4-H Outdoor Education programming and events. It is planned that this position will have a maximum of 5 years of funding, however, funding is subject to change.
Event Management (50%)
Collaborate with program teams in order to manage events, ensuring alignment with event purpose and goals (events include but are not limited to, Fairs, FarmFest, Farm Safety Days, camps, Tractor Certification Days)
Ensure all events are using management and implementation practices that are welcoming, accessible and inclusive of diverse participants and stakeholders
Identify and prioritize tasks, track progress toward completion of deliverables, and ensure all event collaborators are up-to-date.
Create, review and keep current event task lists.
Develop marketing and recruitment materials for events.
Determine equipment, technology and supply needs and oversee ordering and preparation.
Ensure event evaluations are compiled and reports completed.
Work with the state 4-H Outdoor Education program director to facilitate contracts, registration, risk management, and financial management.
Develop and implement a risk management and emergency response plan for each program based on University and MN 4-H outlined practices.
Ensure compliance with UMN, Extension, and Minnesota 4-H policies, rules, and procedures.
Follow UMN policies and Department of Youth Development practices for handling funds.
Propose ideas to improve processes, services, and program quality.
Manage and carry out communications with internal and external audiences.
4-H Outdoor Education Program Support (30%)
In collaboration with 4-H Outdoor Education Program Director, help develop the Wildlife Biology project area by:
Assist in development of ATV Safety curriculum and safety materials.
Manage new activities, workshops, and stand-alone educational events.
Create and implement interactive opportunities for recruitment events.
Support programs in wildlife biology, forestry, and habitat management to engage youth as social and environmental change agents.
4-H Volunteer and Staff Support (20%)
Build and manage volunteer and staff support systems for engagement of program leadership (PDC, youth ambassadors).
Ensure volunteers are active and screened according to 4-H Volunteer requirements.
Provide and manage training requirements for adult instructors, including ASI Instructor training and Tread Lightly.
Identify and equip a new generation of volunteers and certified instructors.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelorâ™s degree plus at least four years of experience in youth development, program development, or program administration/management OR a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight (8) years.
Must be experienced and confident in driving a pick-up or other 3/4-1 ton truck and trailer (25-30') through traffic, navigating tight parking and pick up/drop off spaces, and ensuring safety of trailer contents.
Previous experience with a youth development organization as a youth or adult volunteer and/or paid employee.
Experience coordinating or managing events for participants
Skills in the application of technology for communication, information finding, program delivery and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently and simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse individuals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelorâ™s degree in outdoor recreation, wildlife biology, or related to the responsibilities of this position is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and support productive work teams.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
Understanding of the best practices of designing, developing, and delivering learning experiences.
Portfolio of previously managed programs/events for youth; range of complexity and participation desired.
Experience in financial planning and management.
Evidence of above average oral and written communication skills.
Ability to apply creative and effective problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to change work direction quickly and adapt to last minute changes.
Additional Requirements:
Must have reliable internet if/when working outside of assigned office location.
Valid driver's license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance.
Travel (in-state) is necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position. Mileage and sustenance reimbursement provided according to University policies.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evening or weekend work.
When not in the assigned office location, employees must be reachable with a mobile or alternate number at the employee's own expense.
Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to lift, push, pull 15 lbs routinely and 40 lbs rarely as well as sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
