The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University.

The Enterprise Student Management System (ESMS) Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admissions IT team is responsible for supporting the IT needs of the UC Irvine Undergraduate Admissions Office and Graduate Division office. Our mission is to be an indispensable Information Technology partner for the Graduate Division Office and Undergraduate Admissions Office. We provide the highest quality of services, support, and innovative solutions to ensure the success of our business partners in a courteous, accurate, efficient, and timely manner. Our primary technology stacks and tools include: Java, React, HTML / CSS, MySQL / MSSQL, Git, Jenkins, Zena, Jira, ServiceNow, Linux + Apache + Tomcat, Windows Server, MVC Design Pattern, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and RESTful API.

Your Role on the Team

Under the supervision of the GD & UGA IT Manager, the Software Developer and Support Specialist applies skills as a software professional with a working understanding of industry best practices, community standards, and relevant policies and procedures for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects. Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues. Works on programming assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Enhances and maintains the key systems for the Graduate Division and Undergraduate Admission Office.

Required:

• Knowledge of secure software development.
• Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience with the identification and use of Java code libraries and open-source forums.
• Knowledge of other IT related areas.
• Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated GitHub software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
• Experience with common Java and SQL programming tools.
• Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
• Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide fast and friendly service with accuracy.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively, overcome blockers and meet deadlines. Able to keep track of ongoing problems, requests, and projects. Ability to respond to requests, assignments, and projects with a sense of urgency.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and persistent.
• Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
• Strong organizational and project management skills; skilled at working independently and keeping track of ongoing problems, requests, and projects. Ability to plan, conduct, and coordinate projects.
• Experience developing web services (RESTful API), Service-Oriented Architecture, and API development tools such as Postman, Curl, or Swagger.
• Ability to adapt and adjust quickly. Detail-oriented.
• Experience with Java, React, SQL, RESTful API, Object-Oriented Programming, MVC design pattern, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Apache, and Tomcat.
• Adhere to OIT's cultural values: Collaboration, Respect, Trust, Transparency, Quality, Inclusiveness, Customer Centricity, and Learning and Growth.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• 1-3 years of experience in all aspects of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• 1-3 years of experience supporting homegrown software solutions to ensure systems and services remain operational and compliant, timely, and accommodate campus growth.

Preferred:

• Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to projects.
• Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.

Special Conditions:

• Must reside in California.
• May be required to work overtime, as needed.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $30.56 - $42.00 (Hourly).
