The purpose of this position is to support the Development – Zoning Section in the comprehensive zoning by-law review project. This position would support the two senior planners and the Manager in carrying out the tasks required for the background research, strategic directions, formulation of the new zoning by-law, and any related appeals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for assignments related to the comprehensive zoning by-law project, analyzing and making recommendations through reports, including presentations to Committees, Committees of the Council and appearing at Ontario Municipal Board Hearings and other planning forums in support of the City's planning objectives and Council decision
May also be assigned to handle other duties within the Development Division, including the processing of development applications
Assembly and collection of data, and preparation of reports and documents related to the project
Making recommendations through reports, and communicating them to the public and other stakeholders Participating in all meetings and coordinating efforts with undertaking the project
Appearing at Ontario Municipal Board Hearings and other planning forums in support of the City's planning objectives
Participating in special projects related to policy planning and zoning by-law amendments projects Processing of development applications, as required
Required Skills/Knowledge
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Palis, OCE Web, ABC docs
Energetic self-starter with excellent research, analytical thinking and communication skills Knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, Provincial Plans, and other related legislation
Experience in development planning and municipal government will be considered an asset. Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
A team player with excellent organizational and project management skills as well as the capability to deal effectively with the public and meet deadlines.

Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire Attendance at Council or Committee meetings after regular business hours may be required

Must be willing and able to transport yourself to City work sites as required (mileage compensated)
