UCI School of Humanities has more than 180 faculty, 13 departments, and almost 20 research centers. Almost all students across campus take humanities classes. The Advancement department supports the Dean and faculty throughout the School, raising funds for student support, endowed chairs, innovative programs, and more.
The Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for School of Humanities is a senior-level development professional who works collaboratively with the Dean of School of Humanities and University Advancement (UA) to lead the development program of the School and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. The primary activity of the EDOD is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support, and the EDOD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The EDOD reports directly to unit leadership, with a dotted line to University Advancement. The EDOD is expected to serve as a member of the leadership team and to also be a highly collaborative colleague within the School of Humanities and with other development officers across the campus.

$112,100 - $208,100 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $170,000 - $210,100 (Annual Salary)
At least seven years of successful professional development and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education
Experience-based knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising for a comprehensive research university, including the ability to direct a complex development program
Strong collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone
Experienced in operating under a prospect moves-management system that utilizes a central database
Collaborative in nature knowing that many donors' interests involve multiple parts of the university
Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that leverage a relationship-building and moves-management approach leading to successful gift closure
Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments
Ability to work independently with both School and institutional goals in mind
Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible
Ability to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies
Strong people management skills to effectively recruit, engage, manage and develop a professional development team.
Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally
Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce or comparable a donor/prospect database system
Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments
Bachelor's degree in related area
Excellent knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations including advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Excellent knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives, applicable policies, infrastructure and current issues of concern and knowledge of issues of concern for higher education, generally. Excellent knowledge of leadership/management concepts, procedures, techniques and best practices. Excellent leadership/management skills to select, train, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills, including excellent political acumen skills, to build and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies. Excellent skills in meeting predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
May work long hours to meet fundraising commitments Local, regional, and national travel is required.
