Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Capital Project Management is seeking a highly skilled individual to work as an Associate Project Manager in the Office of Capital Project Management (CPM) at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). The individual will work under one or more lead Project Managers to assist and coordinate various aspects of renovation projects, and may at times my work under a Directors supervision for specific tasks.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will work closely with the project team and the various stakeholders within CUMC, an assist in a variety of ways in support of design and construction projects in addition to special assignments for the CPM team.
Specifically, the selected candidate will be responsible to assist in the coordination of a complex team of professional consultants, facilities team members, and numerous client groups. The candidate will have demonstrated experience and success with general design and construction issues, project controls, change order management, coordination of engineering systems that tie-in to existing building services such as a boiler plant, chillers, etc. Candidate must be able to work with project architects, engineers, specialty consultants, stakeholders, and end-users to insure that the project meets many varied needs. The selected individual will be required to work collaboratively with CUMC Facilities Operations, Public Safety, Radiation Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Data/Telephone and Space Planning to coordinate the many stakeholders for both projects.
The selected candidate will assist in the preparation of standard project records, letters, memos, meeting minutes, Columbia University contracts for architectural, engineering and construction services, and will be responsible to coordinate the design and on-site activities of general contractors and/or construction managers. Preferably, the selected candidate will have experience with engineered systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, and other infrastructure. The candidate must have a demonstrated experience with solving design and construction issues including, due diligence, design issues, field conditions, multi trade coordination, trouble shooting and developing cost-effective solutions to general construction, infrastructure and specifically mechanical problems. He/she will prepare or review requisitions, purchase orders and keep current on invoices for payment. The candidate will assist in the preparation of bid documents and manage the process using the University Bidding Policies. She/he will assist in the development and be responsible for the maintenance of schedules and cost control measures. The candidate will assist in the coordination on all aspects of the projects including: design, construction, relocations, furniture procurement & installation, and move-ins. The candidate will maintain a record keeping system of hard and electronic files for all project related correspondence, contracts, drawings, specifications and other documents.
The selected candidate will be responsible for managing important components of the projects. These include Power Point presentations, and the preparation of high level executive presentations and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to work independently is required. The ability to determine priorities, exercise initiative and work under pressure is required. Willingness and ability to learn new software programs is required.
Degree and licensure in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management preferred. Experience with Autocad, Excel, Word and scheduling software (MS Project or P6) and familiarity with Primavera Unifier, and LEED accreditation a plus. Title of Associate Project Manager, level A or B will be commensurate with experience.
