Position Overview: The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Minnesota is seeking an experienced cloud network engineer to support the development and implementation of cloud technologies that advance our core mission of academics, research, and outreach. Candidates should have full lifecycle experience with hybrid clouds including: architecture/design, build, and ongoing operational support. This is an exciting opportunity to define and operationalize cloud services in Azure, Google Cloud, and/or AWS through robust automation and CI/CD pipelines. Ideal candidates will have excellent technical and interpersonal skills (elevated EQ), an ability to work with users and technologists with varying levels of experience and a strong commitment to supporting an environment of trust, collaboration, and mission-focused work.
Compensation: $101,000 - $113,000 (depending on experience)

Job Responsibilities: Use APIs and automation tools such as Terraform to enable cloud-native network services in conjunction with upper-stack needs to leverage infrastructure as code Serve as the liaison between the cloud team and the network team for cloud networking strategy and implementation Work with network architects and engineers to create standards and patterns for cloud network services Design and implement virtual private cloud (VPC) networks using cloud-native peering and traditional routing protocols Establish and refine process for the configuration and maintenance of cloud-native firewalls Establish and refine processes for the configuration and maintenance of cloud-native DNS/DHCP/IP Address Management (DDI) Establish and refine processes for the configuration and maintenance of cloud-native load balancing services Develop detailed technical processes and supporting documentation for cloud network services Participate in troubleshooting and service restoration efforts for cloud network services services Plan and execute code upgrades for cloud network services Participate in on-call rotation approximately twice per year

Required Qualifications: BA/BS plus at least two years of experience, or master’s degree Cloud networking experience in one or more platforms: Azure, AWS, Google, on-premise cloud Solid understanding of network technologies (Cisco route/switch, firewall, load balancing, DNS) Strong scripting skills (ability to write Bash script, Python, Terraform, etc.) Familiar with infrastructure as code concepts using CI/CD pipelines (development, staging and production).
