The position will report to Dietrich College's associate dean, Advancement and Strategic Initiatives with a dotted line to University Advancement's executive director, Development, and will be responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects with a rated capacity of $50,000 and greater. Additionally, this role will manage a portfolio of approximately 125 prospects.
This role requires knowledge of the principles of fundraising; ability to recognize and understand the objectives of the University Advancement division, and to integrate personal goals with those objectives; ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and alter strategic advancement plans for prospect moves management; ability to articulate the case for supporting the vision/mission/goals of Carnegie Mellon. Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the university's fundraising priorities through developing excellent working relationships with university constituencies; excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required; broad knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates; personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education. Communicate with university stakeholders, particularly when there may be multiple contacts with the prospect/donor; develop skills and participate in training; keep current on programs, faculty, research and student initiatives at the university; collaborate with faculty, school development teams and University Advancement staff. Decide the most efficient and productive use of travel and work-from-office time.
In addition to these general skills, the position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
initiate contacts with potential donors
determine the capacity and inclination of potential donors to make a gift or pledge
develop and execute appropriate cultivation strategies for prospective donors, including working with advancement colleagues, volunteers, faculty and university leadership
move prospective donors in a deliberate and timely fashion toward solicitation
make solicitations when appropriate
close gifts and pledges in a swift manner
maintain stewardship contacts with donors

Qualifications:
Education: bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Experience: 3-5 years of successful fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, including direct solicitation of five and six figure gifts from individuals.
Licenses/Certifications: must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must successfully complete a driver's license verification on an annual basis. Must complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driver Training once every three years.

Work Posture: this position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence 3 days a week.
Travel: the person in this position will be expected to travel 10-12 times per year outside of the Pittsburgh region and conduct prospect meetings locally and virtually.
