Cornell University's Division of Alumni Affairs and Development is seeking an Administrative Assistant IV in the Office of Trusts, Estates and Gift Planning to support realized estate and trust administration. The office works with donors to advance the university's mission via planned gifts, which can include trusts, estates, gift annuities, life insurance and retirement accounts, and then administers those gifts.
This position is important to the disposition and recordkeeping for estate, trust, life insurance, and retirement account gifts. Attention to detail, good organizational skills, and proficiency with Excel workbooks is critical. The work can vary from day to day depending on the circumstances of the gifts received and the stage of their anticipated maturity. The successful candidate would have a natural sense of curiosity and ability/willingness to research information that is needed in the administration and support of estates and trusts.
This position is an Administrative Assistant IV with a salary range of $24.01 to $27.91. This position is based in Ithaca, NY and hybrid work arrangements may be considered.

Key Responsibilities
We are looking for someone to join our team who can:
Read incoming correspondenceto assess what information has been provided and what is needed
Prepare first drafts of response letters, emails, and otherwise communicate in a professional manner
Deposit gifts to appropriate funds/accounts, and ensure that a paper and/or digital record is maintained for each gift
Effectively and efficiently manage multiple concurrent responsibilities, while tracking and organizing many details.
Maintain complete paper and electronic records for estates, trusts and other planned gifts
Be willing and able to understand and utilize business/financial mathematics, accounting principles, and basic legal concepts
Take initiative to suggest improvements to office processes
Process transactions in the university's financial system
Serve as a backup for processing of securities gifts
Exercise sound judgment, tact, and discretion, and maintain confidentiality
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
Facility with written and verbal communication, along with excellent customer service skills
Demonstrated ability in business/financial mathematics and understanding of financial assets such as stocks and bonds and how they are used in charitable donations
Working knowledge of accounting principles, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and packaged databases
Ability to multitask in a busy and nonlinear work environment
Ability to interact regularly with alumni, friends, attorneys, financial professionals and university colleagues in a professional, tactful, and diplomatic manner
An appreciation for and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree with concentration in business, finance, accounting, paralegal studies or a combination of equivalent experience and education
More than 2 years equivalent combined experience and education
Experience with university accounting system, university treasurer's office functions, and university gift system
Strong math and analytical skills
Experience in finance, law, charitable giving, or accounting
Working Environment
