Overview The mission of Sponsored Research Contracting and Compliance (SRCC) is to ensure timely and effective review and acceptance of grants, contracts and other awards from federal funding agencies, other universities, nonprofit organizations, and private industry for the benefit of San Diego State University. SRCC is also responsible for initiating subagreements with other institutions and verifying completion by researchers of various compliance requirements such as human and animal subjects, conflict of interests, and other research compliance requirements managed through the SDSU division of research support services. The department works closely with staff from sponsored research development (pre-award) and sponsored research administration (post-award). The department is comprised of 6.75 FTEs.
The SRCC Analyst I position is responsible for the receipt, review and processing of awards including verification of completion of any SDSU compliance requirements. Under general guidance and direct supervision of the Director, the analyst reviews, and processes incoming sponsored programs award documents, prepares subaward agreements and ensures compliance requirements have been satisfied for both awards and subagreements. The Analyst I is responsible for data entry related to awards, compliance and subagreements into SDSURF electronic systems. The analyst assists in documenting procedures related to all aspects of the job. The position must have a high level of attention to detail. The analyst shall possess the necessary communication skills essential to coordinate with all departments within SDSURF. The position is currently hybrid requiring 2 days per week on site.
Responsibilities The SRCC analyst is responsible for but not limited to:
Award Processing - 40%
Responsible for internal processes related to the receipt, review, and processing of awards, including review of standard language terms and conditions and implementation of authorization to spend funds.
Assist in the review and implementation of procedures for awards processing.
Collaborate with the office of research support services to verify that researchers have completed any applicable protocols related to animal and human subjects, conflicts of interest, financial disclosures, environmental health and safety, and other requirements.
Input award data into SDSURF accounting systems and conduct data reviews to ensure accuracy.
Subagreements - 40%
Draft subagreements and amendments using approved templates for a variety of subrecipients. Communicating with faculty, staff and subrecipients to obtain applicable scopes of work, budgets, subrecipient information and other items as needed.
Review requested revisions and confer with the Director in order to respond appropriately.
Verify that subagreements comply with applicable compliance requirements related to animal and human subjects, conflicts of interest, financial disclosures, environmental health and safety, and other requirements.
Input subaward data into SDSURF accounting systems and conduct data reviews to ensure accuracy of subagreement activity data.
Route documents for authorized signatures.
General Support and Analysis - 20%
Reviews procedures and suggests streamlining measures as appropriate.
Participate on task forces, special projects and committees related to SDSURF systems, as needed.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of standard office procedures, using MS Office, MS Word, Excel and other applicable software to create memos and documents
Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, written and oral communication skills
Attention to detail with strong planning and organizational skills
Ability to act on critical issues in a timely manner and meet deadlines
Ability to follow directions from a supervisor and work with direct supervision under multiple deadlines and fluctuating priorities
Ability to identify, analyze and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to appropriate staff
Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, faculty and project staff and to demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural sensitivity.
Ability to display motivation and strong interpersonal skills
Two years of progressively responsible experience in an institution of higher education, research institution or non-profit organization, or related contract review experience.
Previous experience working in sponsored programs related compliance, award review and processing, and sub-agreement preparation.
Previous experience interpreting and applying regulations and requirements.
Experience using software for research administration such as Banner or InfoEd, or other internal award tracking systems.
