The City of Springfield, Missouri is seeking a committed, future-focused, visionary leader for the role of Director of Planning and Development.
The Planning and Development department works to improve the quality of life for current and future generations through implementation of creative planning and development strategies and effective citizen involvement. The department oversees all city planning, land use, zoning, and community development activities. The Director serves as principal advisor to community stakeholders and directs the preparation and maintenance for the City Master Plan, Forward SGF.
The ideal candidate must be prepared to lead a team of xx employees, develop and implement effective department policies, utilize sound judgement regarding matters of significance, communicate and present effectively and courteously, and model and promote acceptance and respect for differences among employees and citizens.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a closely related field
Five years of responsible work experience in the field of Urban Planning
Must have experience with supervisory and management level responsibilities
Valid driver’s license for completing work related job duties requiring use of a motor vehicle
Prefer a master’s degree and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) membership
