Position Summary
The Associate Dean for Institutional Development and External Affairs is a senior staff leadership role within the School of Public Health. Reporting directly to the Dean, this position provides strategic and operational oversight of forward-looking school-wide initiatives, leads the development of new programs at the school, builds capacity for new ideas and solutions, and manages external affairs, including communications and marketing.
Since the School launched in January 2025, it has received funding for two school-wide institutes: the Ryan Institute and the Bursky Institute. The Associate Dean will oversee, in partnership with the Dean, these two school-based institutes in addition to public health accelerators which will advance solutions to public health challenges. It is anticipated that the Associate Dean will oversee other such initiatives that are equivalently forward looking and building school capacity as the school grows.
This role serves as a key member of the Dean's leadership team and acts as an institutional liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Institute Oversight
In partnership with Dean and other School leaders, successfully recruit an Executive Director for each Institute and oversee the building of a team for each.
Provide administrative and operational leadership for two current school-based institutes, and potentially future institutes or centers, ensuring alignment with the school's administrative and academic units.
Partner closely with the Office of Innovation to ensure collaboration between the networks, enterprise partnership team and data and evaluation teams. The partnership between these offices will ensure success of the Institutes.Â
Collaborate with the Executive Directors of both Institutes on budgeting, staffing, programming, and execution of goals.
Facilitate coordination between institutes and schools and units across the university to maximize impact.
Monitor institute activities, opportunities for growth and challenges, and report progress to the Dean on an ongoing basis.
Development
Work with the Dean to develop strategic initiatives, which may lead to funding priorities for the school.
Partner with University Advancement on stewardship of current donors and the creation of funding priorities in alignment with the schoolâ™s strategic direction.Â
Engage with School leadership to plan for and implement new school-wide initiatives.Â
Liaise with university-partners on the execution of strategic initiatives.
External Affairs and Communications
Work with the Dean to elevate the reputation of the school externally, this includes identifying speaking and other engagement opportunities nationally and globally that align with the direction of the school.Â
Oversee the schoolâ™s marketing and communication function to further elevate the schoolâ™s visibility locally, nationally, and globally.
Identify and cultivate relationships with external stakeholders that advance the school's priorities.
Lead and manage projects assigned by the Dean, including cross-institutional initiatives and time-sensitive priorities. This can include standing up time-limited task forces to promote growth and advancement in certain areas.Â
Represent the School at external meetings, convenings, and events as needed.
Leadership and Administration
Serve on the Dean's leadership team and contribute to school-wide planning and decision-making.
Prepare reports, briefings, and communications for internal and external audiences.
Manage a portfolio budget and supervise staff supporting institute operations and external affairs functions.
Perform other duties as assigned. Â
